Broken doesn’t always mean finished.

No power, a spilled coffee, a hinge that cracked the lid, a keyboard with a dead row. A laptop deserves a diagnosis before anyone says “just buy a new one”.

MacBook Air and Pro, Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, Microsoft Surface and gaming laptops.

Sounds like one of these?

  • Won’t turn on, or turns on and offCharger, battery, power button, or a fault on the board.
  • Liquid spillKeyboard stopped working, smells odd, or it died a few days after the spill.
  • Cracked or flickering screenPanel damage, a display cable worn by the hinge, or a board fault.
  • Hinge broken or lid crackingCommon on thin laptops; left alone it tears the display cable.
  • Keyboard or trackpad faultsDead keys, repeating keys, trackpad that clicks on its own.
  • Battery dies quickly or won’t chargeWorn battery, charger, charging port, or charging circuit.
  • Overheating, loud fan, or very slowDust, failed thermal paste, failing storage, or software.
  • Won’t boot, blue screens, or storage errorsFailing drive, memory, or operating system problems.

Diagnosis first

We test power and charging at the board, not by swapping chargers. Spilled-on laptops are opened and inspected before any part is ordered, because a new keyboard on a corroded board is money wasted. Slow or crashing laptops get the drive and memory tested first.

  • Liquid damage and board-level repairCleaning, inspection and component-level repair on the board.

Two kinds of laptop repair

Some faults are a part to replace. Others live on the logic board and need investigating before anyone can say what a repair involves. We tell you which kind yours is before you approve anything.

  • Straightforward part repairsScreens, batteries, keyboards, trackpads, hinges, charging ports and fans: the faulty part is identified, replaced and tested.
  • Faults that need board investigationNo power at all, liquid damage, still not charging with a known-good charger, or no picture with a working screen. These go to board-level diagnosis first.

Questions about laptop repairs

I spilled a drink on it. Is it worth repairing?

Often, if it’s looked at quickly. The sooner the board is cleaned and inspected, the less corrosion there is to deal with. Don’t keep charging it in the meantime.

Do you repair MacBooks?

Yes, including board-level faults. Some Apple parts are tied to the machine by Apple; where that affects a repair we tell you before you approve it.

Can you make it faster?

If the laptop has replaceable storage or memory, an SSD or memory upgrade often transforms an older machine. If everything is soldered, we’ll say so rather than sell you a service that won’t help.

I don’t know what’s wrong with it. Can I still ask?

Yes. Describe what you see and what happened. “It got wet and now the screen flickers” is more useful to us than a guess at the part, and the enquiry has an “I don’t know” option at every step.

What happens to my data during a repair?

Back up anything you can before sending a device in. We only access what the repair and testing need, and we’ll tell you before any step that could affect your data.
